What is acrobatic gymnastics?
Acrobatic gymnastics, also called sport acrobatics, is the gymnastics discipline where athletes work in partnerships rather than alone. Pairs, trios and groups perform routines of balance, tumbling and dance set to music.
Athletes compete three routine types. A balance routine rewards strength, poise and flexibility. A dynamic routine adds throws, somersaults and catches. A combined routine brings elements of both together.
It is a different sport from artistic gymnastics. There is no vault, bars or beam here. What your child develops instead is partner trust, timing, body control and the kind of teamwork that carries well beyond the gym.

There is a real pathway here, and it starts in a recreational class
Competitive acrobatic gymnastics is not a separate world you have to already belong to. Most of our athletes started in a recreational class, were noticed by a coach, and moved across when they were ready.
From there the path is gradual. Training hours, skill levels and travel expectations all step up together, and no partnership advances until it is genuinely prepared.
Pre-competitive
Athletes learn partner skills, test their physical preparation and try both base and top positions. Some partnerships form here and begin working toward their first competition.
Developmental levels
Partnerships train several times a week and compete through the USA Gymnastics Acro Developmental Program levels, starting with the first level eligible for domestic competition in Canada. Travel is within Alberta.
National and international
Athletes train longer hours across higher developmental levels and the international Aspire stream, based on World Gymnastics age groups. Travel extends across Canada, with optional international opportunities.
Training hours, age ranges and level placement depend on each partnership. See the full competitive structure.
Why families choose Edmonton Acrobatic Gymnastics
We were the first club to bring sport acrobatics to Northern Alberta, and we are still family operated. Most of our coaching team are parents themselves.
Small classes, real coach attention
Our gym is compact by design. Class sizes are set so every child gets time with a coach rather than time in a queue.
You can see the progress
Recreational athletes work through nine levels and take home a report card each session, so improvement is something you can read, not just hope for.
Certified coaching
Our coaches hold National Coaching Certification Program qualifications in acrobatic gymnastics, trampoline and artistic gymnastics, and our head coach is an NCCP learning facilitator and coach evaluator.
Room to go as far as you want
The same club that runs a parent and baby class also runs high performance partnerships. Your child never has to change clubs to keep going.
The people your child will actually train with
Our coaching team covers everything from baby gymnastics through high performance partnerships, and several of our coaches came up through the club themselves. You will meet the same faces week after week.

Questions parents ask us most
What age can my child start gymnastics?
From six months old. Our parent and baby and parent and tot classes run from six months to three years, preschool classes cover three to six years, and recreational acrobatic gymnastics starts at six. Adults aged 16 and over can drop in to Acro Jam.
Do you offer free trial classes?
No. If you register and pay for a session but are not happy with the program after the first class, we will cancel your registration and provide a full refund.
Can I watch my child during class?
Our gym is small and the space is set up for the children, so there is no in-person viewing area. Registered families receive a Zoom link and can watch from a phone, tablet or computer. Parents do not need to stay, as long as you are back for the end of class. Parented classes are the exception, where you take part the whole time.
What should my child wear?
Something cool, comfortable and easy to move in. A snug t-shirt and shorts, or a gymnastics leotard or bodysuit with shorts, works well. Nothing that flips up when upside down or catches on equipment, so no dresses or hoods. No socks, shoes or jeans. Bring a water bottle and tie back hair that is shoulder length or longer.
What discounts do you offer?
We offer 5 percent off when multiple children register together, whether they are family or friends. The discount applies to every child in the group. We occasionally offer additional discounts to families following us on Facebook or Instagram, or subscribed to our email list.
How does my child join the competitive team?
Most competitive athletes are invited by a coach who has watched them in a recreational class. If your child has not been invited but you think they may be ready, you can request a tryout. Details are on our competitive acrobatic gymnastics page.
