About Edmonton Acrobatic Gymnastics
The first club to bring sport acrobatics to Northern Alberta, still family operated, and still coaching in Millwoods.
Who we are
Edmonton Acrobatic Gymnastics is located in the Millwoods area of Edmonton, Alberta, inside Leefield Community Centre. We were the first acrobatic gymnastics club to offer sport acrobatics programs in Northern Alberta, and we have been a member club of the Alberta Gymnastics Federation since 2012.
We are family operated, and the coaching team is made up primarily of parents just like you. Running the club ourselves gives us a perspective and a flexibility in programming that is not available in most environments, and it is why our programs run from six months old right through to high performance partnerships under one roof.
Our coaches have a style that focuses on the athlete and on love of the sport, which is what actually inspires athletes to keep going.
What is acrobatic gymnastics?
Acrobatic gymnastics, also known as sport acrobatics, is a competitive gymnastics discipline where partnerships of gymnasts work together to perform routines of acrobatic elements, dance and tumbling set to music.
There are three routine types:
- A balance routine, where the focus is strength, poise and flexibility
- A dynamic routine, which includes throws, somersaults and catches
- A combined routine, which includes elements of both
It is a different sport from artistic gymnastics. There is no vault, uneven bars or balance beam here. Athletes compete as pairs, trios and groups, taking base or top roles, and the whole sport is built on partnership.
How we coach
Our gym is small, and we treat that as a feature. Class sizes are set around how many children a coach can genuinely attend to, not around how many will fit in the room.
Recreational athletes work through a nine level acrobatic gymnastics report card system and receive a report card at the end of each session, so families can see progress in writing rather than guessing at it. Athletes advance when they have mastered a level, however long that takes.
Competitive athletes follow the USA Gymnastics Acro Developmental Program alongside our own physical preparation testing, and high performance athletes also work in the international Aspire stream based on World Gymnastics age groups.

Where we are
You will find us inside Leefield Community Centre, 7910 36 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6K 1H7, in the Millwoods area, with convenient access from Whitemud Drive and Anthony Henday Drive.
We are a member club of the Alberta Gymnastics Federation. All participants require an annual AGF registration, which is included in our registration process.
