Frequently asked questions

The questions parents ask us most, grouped by topic. If yours is not here, text us at 780-818-8713.

Getting started

What age can my child start gymnastics?

From six months old. Parent and baby and parent and tot classes run from six months to three years, preschool classes cover three to six years, and recreational acrobatic gymnastics starts at six. Adults aged 16 and over can drop in to Acro Jam. See all programs by age.

Do you offer free trial classes?

No, we do not offer free trial classes. If you register and pay for the session but are not happy with the program after the first class, we are happy to cancel your registration and provide a full refund.

What should my child wear to class?

Something cool, comfortable and easy to move in. Nothing that will flip up when upside down or get stuck on equipment, so no dresses or hoods. We recommend a snug fitting t-shirt and shorts, or a gymnastics leotard or bodysuit with shorts. No socks, shoes or jeans.

What should we bring on the first day?

A water bottle. There is a water fountain but it is not inside the gymnasium. Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied up, and please arrive already dressed for class. A positive attitude is a bonus.

Can my child take part if they wear a headscarf or similar attire for religious reasons?

Yes. We just ask that it is wrapped securely and tucked into clothing to prevent it from flipping up, getting caught or falling off.

Can my child take part if they wear glasses?

Absolutely. Keep in mind this is a sport, so there is always a risk of glasses falling off or getting broken. A sports band can help keep them in place.

During class

Can I watch my child during class? Do I have to stay?

Our gym is small and we have optimised the usable space for the children, so there is no in-person viewing available. When you are registered in a program you receive a link to a Zoom meeting and can watch on your phone, tablet or computer.

As long as you are back for the end of class, parents are not required to stay, unless it is a parent assisted class. We have your contact details from registration should we need them.

I registered in a parented class. Do I have to stay the whole time?

Yes. In Babynastics, Mini Heroes and Super Heroes you are required to stay with and assist your child at all times. Class sizes for these programs are set assuming parent involvement. You can send a sibling over 12 to take part instead of a parent, and only one assistant per child is permitted.

Do you offer make-up classes or refunds if we miss a day?

No. Most of our classes are full, which leaves no room to fit in children who have missed other classes. There are also no refunds or discounts for missed classes.

Levels and progression

How do I know if my child is ready for intermediate or advanced classes?

Your child receives a report card as they progress. If they have passed acro level C in Beginner they can register for Intermediate. If they have passed acro level F in Intermediate they can register for Advanced.

If you have not taken a class with us yet but think your child is ready for a more advanced class, the full skill requirements for each level are listed on our recreational gymnastics page.

How does my child get on the competitive team?

Most competitive athletes are invited by one of our coaches who has watched them in class. If your child has not received an invitation but you think they may be ready, you can request a tryout.

What hours do the competitive teams train?

Training hours increase at each competitive stage, from three hours per week in Rookies up to eighteen or more hours per week in Masters. Days and times are set each season. See the six competitive stages for the hours at each level, and confirm current schedules with a coach.

Registration and payment

Why can I not select a certain class to register in?

Most likely the class is full and has been closed for registration. Check back later in case of a cancellation, watch for our next session registration to open, or join the waitlist through the parent portal.

Will you open more spots or classes?

New classes may be opened after the first classes fill completely. If you want to be notified about new classes, join our mailing list or get in touch.

Classes have already started. Do you prorate?

Yes. Class prices are adjusted based on the number of classes left in the season through to the following June. You can register and start any time provided space is available. Note that report cards may not be issued if the time between your start date and the report card date is insufficient to assess progress properly.

Can I pay by cash, in person, or register in person?

Not at this time. We offer online registration and payment only. If you need assistance registering or paying, please text or message us and we will help.

What discounts do you offer?

We offer a 5 percent discount when registering multiple children, family or friends, at once. The friends and family discount is applied to all children registering together. We occasionally offer exclusive discounts to those following our Facebook or Instagram, or subscribed to our email list.

Do you offer financial aid to low income families?

We are not able to offer discounts to low income families. The only discounts we offer are listed above. You are welcome to reach out to sport support agencies such as KidSport or Jumpstart.

Note that with support agency funding you are still responsible for paying for classes and will be refunded on receipt of funding from the agency. We are not affiliated with any funding agency, so questions about approvals or payments should go to the agency directly.
